Handmade: Tuesday outfit

At the risk of sounding pompous..I am self-promoting today! I am finally wearing something I made; an item that is very dear to my heart because of its background story. Not to make this intro too long, I launched a collection inspired by my heritage and I truly wanted to share that with my audience and followers. I wanted to make a collection that represented who I am. A bicultural girl! A little Arabic and a little Canadian. I wanted people to see what I was made of; a little traditional, a little eccentric and a little modest! With a lot of heart and ambition <3 Let’s not forget about that!

What was most exciting about this particular collection (entitled Eastern Pearl) is the fact that the embroidery on my pieces was done with the gracious and wonderful help of amazing individuals; underprivileged women in Jordan that stay in a refugee camp. They’re basically in a shelter that promotes gender equality and that stands up for women to stay strong, powerful and be heard. These women work hard to earn an honest living and that to me was extremely humbling and inspiring. Because I had 20 pieces or so..I couldn’t do the work all by myself, so I mainly focused on pattern making and sewing and left the rest to the genius embroidery fairies. The work was obviously a little more expensive, but knowing that the money  went to a good cause made me feel proud.

I sold a big part of this collection but kept some pieces because they were too beautiful to let go. This one in particular was the first one made and I needed to kept it for memory. And this is how I styled my favorite handmade embroidered jacket…

It’s a long straight cut jacket that is loose enough but fitted enough to be worn as an A-line dress too (if you close the zipper all the way up). It’s super pretty over dresses and even worn with jeans and killer heels. For today, I decided to wear it over a black jumpsuit. This outfit is definitely dressy, elegant and feminine. If styled with glamorous pieces, you can most definitely wear this out for a special event!

I added a little belt to cinch it up and put the emphasis on my waist. And finished the whole look up with my favorite clutch ever. This is another long story…but it’s a piece I bought in a little antique shop in Jerusalem. So many beautiful memories come with this precious piece. Ugh, screw you nostalgia!

What I wore in details:

-Forever 21 jumpsuit.
-Palestinian embroidered jacket handmade by moi!
-Thrifted belt.
-Vince Camuto booties.
-Antique clutch.
-Michael Kors sunnies.

I was never able to wear something I made, because I always felt like I was maybe showing off…but as I got older, I realized that it wasn’t true, it was just an idea I had put in my head because I wasn’t confident enough in myself. But now I know that we are all different and we all have something to offer. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better or it’s worse, it just means we all have something to put out there that will somehow make a difference in someone’s life. So if you take the time to make a garment or make an accessory or make a piece of art, don’t be shy to show it off, because it’s worth it! It’s worth it to show the world what you’re made of!

Always be true to who you are!

Tinsel Mania

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!! Okay okay! I am so like totally head over heels in love with this skirt! I can’t even! Like so not even, if that makes any sense. I got this bad boy from Topshop a little while ago and I cannot get over how pretty it is. It’s sensational! It’s feminine! It’s sexy! It’s a special piece. For any extreme fashion lover out there, this piece is a definite must-have!

It’s an A-line midi skirt made with the nicest crepe fabric and is adorned with cute tinsel patches on the front. You can totes dress it up or dress it down. Wear it to the office or wear it for a night out. It’s black, so you can mix it and match it with any color or any texture. Just let you mind go and get creative! I got it for about 60$ for the Topshop website, but it’s on sale for 24$ right now and there’s a couple of sizes left.

I was schedule for meetings and so I wanted to make sure I looked professional yet fashionable. Ended up cancelling them and not going…I still looked cute though!

This is how I styled my little baby:

What I wore:

-Voile Chic mustard scarf.
-Thrifted burgundy sweater.
-Topshop Tinsel patched skirt.
-Vince Camuto booties.
-Vince Camuto studded belt.
-Simmons sunlgasses.

I wanted to balance out my silhouette, so I added a belt over my sweater to make my waist be the focus of the whole look. I feel like a proud mama owning this one. There’s endless opportunities to style this number and I can’t wait to get full on creative. Annnd, I got so many compliments on this skirt and I am super happy! Because I know I will get loads of wear out of it. I consider it to be an investment piece and I am sure to get this baby out for loads of spins.

Take me to the 80s

I have worn these pants before…as they belong to a favorite suit of mine straight from the 80s. What I love about it is that I can wear it as a plain full suit or I can deconstruct it and mix & match it to many different pieces I own in my wardrobe. It’s the most beautifully tailored Tristan & Iseut suit I have came across. The fit, the fabric, the cut, the feel…everything about it is just perfection.

img_4031

So today, I decided to use the suit’s trouser with a different combination, as I wanted to go for something a little more colorful. What better way to beat the winter than to bring color in your outfit. So here we are going back to the 80s….when Canada used to still produce locally!

And here’s how my outfit looked like:

Along with my Tristan trousers, I wore a salmon-y coral-y blazer from Topshop (a favorite piece of mine). On a little side note…I super love Topshop; the prices are great but the quality is amazing. You get you’re money’s worth. And, if you take the time too take care of your items, they will last you ages. This is a blazer I got a little over 3 years ago and it still looks lovely. Plus, the fabric is amazeballs!

img_4020

I combined these 2 pieces with this floral top from Nygard, which I also own for like almost 2 years now. And last but not least, I obviously wore my favorite booties from Vince Camuto. I like always wear them, I have been on them since the beginning of November and I seriously cannot get enough of them. I like have a gazillion pairs of black boots and booties, but I always reach from this one more. I guess because it’s comfortable despite the height and it’s super stylish too!

I love the color combination of the whole outfit! But I mostly love that I was able to throw vintage in there and re-use some older pieces in my closet. I always get excited when I deconstruct outfits and reconstruct them. It like gives me a sense of control in a world full of chaos. Plus, you don’t need to spend loads of money to look good. You just need to be open to mixing and matching in pieces in your wardrobe.

Let your creative juices flow girls! Because it’s the best way to truly express who you are!

Casual Friday Outfit

It’s Friday! It’s still a workday..but it’s the last one. I usually like to dress down and comfy on Fridays. Fridays are usually sneakers and workout legging kindda day. Today, I had a little bit more enthusiasm to dress casual chic for work..high heels and all. I originally wanted to wear a dress, but since it was a little too cold, I went for a dress over jeans look. Kinda cool, kinda different…

I bought this dress for Palestine 2 summers ago for a local shop that imported from Turkey. I always heard my momma say that Turkish fashion is the best. She always told my sisters and I that buying Turkish made clothing is the best thing ever best quality is never compromised. As I got older, I realized it’s true. There’s not only quality in Turkish made clothing, but loads of unique pieces and super cute styles.

I saw this piece and I really wanted to own it because it’s a dress but a tunic but a shirt in one. It all depends on how you style it and how you dress it up or down. I also fell in love because it’s polka dot! The fabric is beyond exquisite. It’s a soft, beautiful satin..almost feels velvety..that’s how soft it is. Today, I turned it into a long shirt and cinched it up with a belt to give myself a nicer figure.

What I wore:

-Ipekzade polka dot dress
-Rachel Zoe black skinnies
-Vince Camuto booties
-Vince Camuto belt

What I truly enjoyed in today’s outfit is the little effort I put into it. I have worn these pieces before in many different outfit options. These pieces sings out to me. I’ve worn them so so much, especially those Rachel Zoe skinnies. The fit is so flattering and so sexy on.

I’ve been trying recently to buy less, but buy better and to stop buying trendy pieces. And working with vintage is quite awesome, because you get to have unique pieces and you get to have endless styling options without compromising the health of the environment. I also like to invest in high-quality pieces which hopefully I’ll end up using for the next 10 or 20 years.

The fashion world is magical and no matter what, you’ll always find room for yourself.

The sweatpants edit!

I never had the guts to wear my sweatpants out…other than places like the gym. Well, I woke up this morning and thought, WTHH?? What’s it called..YOLO? or whatever kids say these days…Why don’t I just wear them today. When I woke up, I knew I needed to stylish, presentable, professional yet super comfortable because I was scheduled for a 3 hour work meeting. So I figured, since a dress was so not on the table (didn’t feel like it), I opted for pants. But I obviously couldn’t do jeans! Soooo, I went for my sweats and damn!! Now I get why loads of people wear them out for the day. They’re fantastically and extremely comfortable. The only things is that if you decide to wear them, you need to make damn sure you bring fire. So, since it was a little cold and rainy, I knew I wanted to go for a full-on sweater on sweater look….but to add a little pizzazz, I added a smart shirt that slightly peeked through my top and some heels.

And this is how I made my sweats happen:

The heels I have been wearing non-stop all month long. I cannot explain how these Vince Camuto boots make me feel. They’re so cute and super super comfortable.

I am not going to lie, this look made me kinda feel ghetto. Like I feel so swag, it’s not even funny! Hence the poses X)

Can I say that not only was I warm, but I also felt super comfortable and at ease during my meeting…actually the whole day. Will I sport this look again…ummm, hell yeah!

What I wore in details:

-Reitmans grey sweater
-Nygard floral shirt
-Forever 21 sweatpants
-Vince Camuto booties
-Vintage necklace (will soon be available for sale in my shop)

The time I dressed like a Mackintosh’s box…

I’ve always wanted to own a Tartan print dress. I was looking for ages to find the perfect one. I looked into vintage stores online and all around. I couldn’t seem to find the one And when you can’t find the one, well you never get over it. Anyway as I was about to give up my search to the ultimate tartan print dress, I stumbled on this one on the ESTY website. I was so excited! The color, the shape and the model I wanted. I mean, I could have made it myself, but I couldn’t even find the fabric to make my own dress. What I love the most about my tartan dress is the fact that it was made with love by another fellow designer in Ukraine. She was so kind to make it patiently and passionately for me. The only downside is that I got it later than I thought…shipping took forever to get. Regardless, I am still happy with the product and I got so many compliments on this little baby! Some one even told me I look like a Mackintosh Caramel box..haha! True!!

I was so happy with the outcome of my look, that I decided to share it with you! Here it is. Not only did I look like tasty caramels, I also look like Santa’s wife! HAHAHAH! With the tartan dress and green vintage coat.

Here’s the look and you can totes judge for yourselves…

This gotta be hands down my favorite outfit yet! I love how feminine I feel in this…super chic and fashion forward. The mix of handmade and vintage was the perfect opportunity for me to share what I love. And I absolutely adore that it’s not too tight and it’s midi length. Perfect all around. This is a piece that I can always count on, because I can wear it to any party. It’s a classic! Like Citizen Kane.

♥ ♥ ♥

What I wore in details:

-Playfashion dress.
-My friend’s vintage coat.
-Vince Camuto booties (yet again..haha! I basically wore them all month long!).
-Vince Camuto leather studded belt.

♥ ♥ ♥

I love supporting artists because I know how hard it is to make ends meet. If I like what I see, then I get super stoked to share people’s work because it helps them get more exposure. So yay to handmade clothing and an even bigger yay to vintage.

Until next time!!! Cheers x
