I let my husband dress me for the day!

I thought it would be interesting to have my husband choose my outfit today since he seems to have an opinion about everything I wear; I though why the heck not let him dress me for the day! I didn’t help him or guide him or tell him anything about what I like and what I don’t like. I gave him full liberty to go through my closet and choose the whole outfit; from head to toe! He didn’t seem to mind, in fact, I think he pretty much enjoyed it. I love seeing him so interested in fashion; save me the job to teach him it. He, himself, has an excellent wardrobe selection when it comes to work wear; he dressed in smart and tailored suits all week and he looks damn good (the perks of marrying a lawyer)! He suffers however from a rut on the weekend and dressed kindda meh, if you know what I mean. He doesn’t even invest in weekend wear, which sucks, but I don’t fuss much as I like to leave him to his own comfort (sweats from head toe for him all weekend). Therefore, I thought it would be really cool to see what my husband would see me in today and this is what he came up with:

IMG_0201

I was actually quite impressed with the fact that he mixed and matched pieces from my wardrobe so confidently and so efficiently. He told me that these tartan pants were the main focus of this look because he loves them so much on me and he finds that I don’t wear them much and it would be a perfect opportunity to wear them today. He automatically wanted to lighten up the pants by paring it with a white shirt…but since the outfit was boring he did not hesitate to add this Monsoon statement jacket overtop even though the pants are patterned. He maintained the gold theme going in the outfit by also accessorising with a gold veil, clutch and necklace. He kept insisting that the white shirt showing through the middle is too much of a blank canvas and that we needed to tone the color down with a necklace and so I showed him what I have and this is what he chose. He’s so freaking edible!

IMG_0211

What I loved most is how he went missing in search of the perfect shoe to go with this outfit and then came back with a big sparkling smile…that smile that says success.

IMG_0215

WHAT I WORE:

JACKET: Monsoon ◊ BLOUSE: Topshop ◊ PANTS: WDG (gift from a while ago) ◊ SHOES: Expression ◊ NECKLACE: Gold (from a local shop in Palestine) ◊ BAG: Aldo ◊ SUNNIES: Forever 21

He said and I quote: “I know how to give an unloved piece some attention and make it special again”. He’s so adorbs with his savant attitude about fashion. I love that he was not afraid to mix and match patterns and texture and I can appreciate the outcome of this outfit very much. I would even say that he styled these pants much better than I did! I never want to wear these pants because I guess I always get a little blocked on styling ideas to go with the purple color in the print. It’s interesting that he combined both feminine and masculine pieces to make this outfit work for me. It gave me pirate vibes all over and I love how he told me to make my white shirt pop through the sleeves; his attention to detail is staggering. I knew I married his for a reason! Haha!

IMG_0157

***On a total random side note…scenery isn’t the biggest oomph in Palestine and so, I decided from now on, not to keep looking for the perfect spot to do my photographs, but rather to embrace what Palestine truly is at the moment and what you see is what you get. Besides, the contrast between the not so beautiful scenery with the eloquent fashion make a great statement. ***

Side note aside, this was a super successful experiment and I cannot wait to try it again! Perhaps with evening attire??? What do you guys think?

The girl in the green pants!

Today’s outfit of the day is mainly focusing on these beautifully sexy 50s cigarette pants I got while vintage shopping a couple of weeks ago. They’re honestly one of the most precious vintage items I own. I am aware that they’re green but that didn’t stop me from purchasing them. These cost a whopping 10$ at the Nova boutique in Ste-Anne-De-Bellevue. These pants are giving me Holly vibes, you know Breakfast at Tiffany’s, that scene where she’s wearing royal blue cigarette pants on the balcony signing Moon River…those kinds vibes. I was super inspired to style them as they were in that scene, however, I wanted to put my own touch and that meant adding textures and colors to the outfit. Depth is always necessary in my own fashion book. Since I never really wear green, I decided to be quite daring with the color choice that went into this outfit. Since it is starting to get a little bit colder here in Jericho, I knew I needed a jacket to cover up.

And so, without further ado, here’s how it came out and to be frank, I am a little proud of the outcome:

IMG_9991

Unfortunately, the label was washed out and so I couldn’t really tell the brand of these pants…but the obvious cut was clear to me that they were super 50s. The super high waist, the cigarette cut, the fit, everything about it screamed that. They are fantastic in fit! They hug the body in the right places and they actually might be classified as overly sexy, depending on what you wear them with. I wanted to keep the modest factor in and so I added the trench coat to avoid the butt/hip enhancement issue. I mean it’s not really an issue, I embrace my big hips….but I am not too comfortable flaunting them.

IMG_0005

WHAT I WORE:

SHIRT: Topshop ◊ PANTS: 50s Vintage (unlabeled) ◊ SHOES: Badgley & Mischka ◊ TRENCH COAT: Vero Moda ◊ NECKLACE: Gift*Antique Silver ◊ EARRINGS: Crystal Couture Bridal ◊ SUNGLASSES: Vintage*Brigitte Bardot ◊ BAG: Nine West

I was contemplating on wearing a basic white shirt, but then again, that would be too obvious and too boring. So instead, I opted for my favourite boho navy Topshop blouse and it just made sense.

IMG_0018

These shoes are my most precious possession. I mean they were my wedding shoes…and the only thing that remains from the wedding. My wedding dress got stolen, le sigh! Anyway, so I hold on to these shoes for dear life and I try not to wear them out too much. But today felt special and I needed to pair them with the green pants. They were super fitting and without overthinking it, I knew these shoes would work out perfectly. They’re a deep burgundy and complement the green in the most fashionably daring way possible.

I felt very fashion forward in this outfit and super lady-like. Although these color seem a little bit weird, I feel like they marry well together and the turban scarf pull everything together.

IMG_9984

So, although I may not have been a green girl before, I can safely say that now I am a convert and I should give every color of the rainbow a chance and try it before hating it. Next color to try could be either purple or orange. Slightly frightened, not gonna lie, but I am up for the challenge!

Top 6: Favorite items in my shoe wardrobe!

When I was younger I had a massive shoe obsession and I might even have considered going to Anonyms Groups to get rid of that addiction. I remember when I was in university, I would always make time to venture into Holt Renfrew to go up to the third floor and simply look at the beautiful designer shoes on display. I may have purchased a few back then. Any regrets you say? No, because I got to try it all! For those of you who aren’t familiar with Holt, well then, get acquainted, because it is the mecca for luxury retail. I don’t really shop there anymore, but I still like to have a look-see once in a while, because browsing is free! Anyway, I am now much better in terms of buying and collecting shoes, I am more responsible and I also take into consideration (very much so) the comfort element.

IMG_9947

If I were to live with only 6 pairs of shoes; they would be it and I will tell you why!

⊕ ⊕ ⊕

#1 The Passe-PartoutIMG_9936

These white leather Chuck Taylor Converse shoes are the epitome of street fashion. They pretty much go with anything from dresses to skirts to jeans to dress smart pants. I love how versatile they are and the white make them even more cool. I know that black usually goes with everything, but I have managed to were these babies out with many outfits. They’re a little difficult to keep clean, but there’s nothing a magic eraser can’t fix! I have had his for a little bit less than a year but to be honest, I took them everywhere with me from Jordan to Canada to Palestine. Super comfortable and super worth the investment. It’s like the perfect badass girl item that gives you a little bit of attitude with a little bit of sass.

#2 The Fashion Forward MuleIMG_9938
I, for the life of me, cannot explain the weird fascination I have with wooden heel mules. Since I was little, I have always wanted to own them…and I remember at 8 years old arguing with my mum as to why she didn’t want to buy me a pair. She was exasperated and probably wished I was a boy. LOLZ. She kept telling me that little girls don’t wear wooden heels for unexplained reasons. Still puzzled here. Well, now, I did my younger self a huge favor and bought these Jessica Simpson mules and have had them in my wardrobe for about 2 years. I know that people usually buy them as trend pieces, but for me they’re timeless because, well, I don’t really care much about following trends. Just freaking dress the way you want ladies! Period! I couldn’t possibly live without these in my shoe wardrobe and I got a lot of wear out of them…even to fancy dinners and with dresses! The fact that they’re black also helps to mix them and match them to every outfit I own. To buy a similar one, find it here.

#3 The Special Occasion Heel IMG_9939

Whenever I need to wear heels to a special occasion, I always get these ones out. Purely because they’ve definitely got that wow factor and they add oomph to any outfit you end up wearing. I know that pink is a touchy colour when it comes to special evenings/outings and can pass off a little too Paris Hilton, but it seriously adds a risqué, avant-garde element to your outfit. I am so glad I got them for Topshop, they’re comfortable and affordable. You can find a similar pair here and here. Why wear boring black heels, when you can wear hot pink ones!

#4 The Go-To TrainersIMG_9941

Much like the Converse trainers, these Adidas ones are pretty much my best friend when it comes to comfort and style. You can just see how knackered they are! I got them well over 4 years ago and if I had to track my cost per wear, I would say I pretty much got my money’s worth and then some. Versatile is not even a word, they look cool with every-freaking-thing you wear. They’re not like the Stan Smith ones that are a little too rigid on the feet, these ones are like air! Literally! I have been trying to find them in another color, but couldn’t, for the life of me, find them anywhere! And it kindddda sucks! Le booo!

#5 The Smart ShoeIMG_9942
It is quite sad to say that my favorite Charles & Keith oxblood oxford shoes are almost coming to an end. They don’t look that bad in the photo (hello lighting and editing), but they’re completely beat! I don’t even think oxblood is happening anymore. Haha! Whenever I want to wear a classic, flat, smart shoe with a smart outfit, I always reach for these one, hence the signs of wear. I bought these a little over 2 years ago and will continue to wear them till they’re literally dead. I feel like the narrow, pointy front of the shoe make them even more classy and dressy. They’re not just boring, old oxfords, they’ve got pizzazz and swag. They’re a little reflective, which means in some lights, it can pass as a black shoe, but when you look closely, it isn’t. Ha! Got you fooled! I feel like they’re a must in my shoe collection, because they’re the perfect alternative to smart high heels. Find similar ones here.

6- The Quintessential BootieIMG_9945
I would say that 85% of my shoe collection has round toe caps and 60% of that same collection has block heels. This is how I’ve always liked my heels to be. I feel seriously funny whenever I wear one of those skinny heels, I feel like I’m a can-can dancer or something. Bock heels never die (in my opinion of course), and they’re sturdy.  I absolutely can marathon in these bad boys right here. Although they are a new addition to my wardrobe, I have worn them a ton already and I am truly honest when I say, it feel like wearing nothing. I know that these booties will last me a wile, because they go with everything from skirts to jeans to dresses, plus they’re black, so here are some extra points. There are days where I just need to wear high heels to feel like I own the world and with these I definitely feel that. The give me the confidence to strut and feel contagiously happy. if ever I find them in an outrageous color, I would invest in them as a statement finishing piece. Black booties are a classic and you can’t go wrong wearing them. So if there’s a type of shoe you should invest in, I would say go for a black bootie. Find similar one with a small twist here.

The Ramallah edit: OOTD!

Hubs and I went to the beautiful city of Ramallah in the West Bank today to do some shopping. We had a personal business affair to tend to and decided to spend the rest of the time shopping for the house. It’s kinda funny shopping with your partner, I find quite fascinating because we have opposite taste and despite me wanting to strangle him sometimes with his color blindness, we managed to compromise and find things we both love. I wanted to document my outfit today for many reasons and one of them is the fact that my kind, wonderful, loving hubs ironed my shirt, while I was getting ready with other things. I mean, what more could a girl ask for? And he did quite a bang up job at that. It is so cute because he doesn’t even iron his own and he took the time to do mine (I do his PS…always!). Relationships are based on trust, respect and mutual assistance; hence ironing each other’s things!!!

Ramallah is such a beautiful city, the air is fresh and the culture is super modern yet very traditional is some way. People are very driven there, it reminds me a little of Montreal with the sky scrapers and the beautiful homes and landscaping. Downtown Ramallah is insanely busy, it’s the hub of the West Bank….Most people go there to shop and dine and experience a modern busy life. The rest of Palestine is beautiful, but Ramallah is special for some reason. I always feel like a tourist when I go there, because I keep discovering new things!

So here’s what I wore today:

What I wore:

SHIRT: Topshop ◊ PANTS: Free People Denims ◊ SHOES: All Stars Converse ◊ BAG: Aldo ◊ SUNGLASSES: Kate Spade

I got this bag as a gift a few months back and this is the first time I wear it. I found that it suited the look I went for, which was super casual yet put together. It’s a cute backpack/shoulder bag from Aldo. What I love about this is that I can use it both ways and switch the straps to my liking. The pompoms add a touch of summer and that makes the look even cooler. The embroidery detailing adds a little bit of Palestine in my outfit; which is very fitting!

IMG_7154

The outfit was perfect for the weather, I did not feel hot at any point during the day. The shirt is flowy and airy and it’s perfect for the summer. The flowy sleeves add a little bit of 70s which I always like! It’s super lightweight and comfortable. What I love most about this is that it’s from Topshop, so I know the quality is there and it will last me ages and also, the detailing on the shirt…the embroidered flowers gives you a little oomph and you can totes dress this shirt up or down depending on the rest of your outfit.

As always comfort and style are not compromised. You can do both as long as you’re happy in your own skin!

Out & about with the gals: OOTD

My friend and I hit town this weekend and I wanted to document my outfit, since I was super proud of it! I mean, it is very rare I make huge efforts dressing up for an event….but this time around; I put loads of thought into it. I also (usually) don’t go for turban styles, because I feel like it demands attention and requires presence and sometimes I feel self-conscious sporting it (I know…silly me). Today, I made huge efforts to put my doubts aside and went full out! Make-up is very rare for me to do…the most I’ll ever do is lipstick (that’s usually my thing). But when I say I went full out, I went FULL out, fake lashes and all!

The weekend is downtime for me when it comes to dressing up, I much prefer being in jeans and a simple tee or if I have to run errands, I’ll just go for yoga pants and a sweater. There wasn’t much choice today for me as I needed to show up looking all kinds of cool (as requested by my friends).

I was actually very happy how my outfit turned out:

Since the sun was out and it was a little bit warmer than usual, I went for sandals (Romy & Michele style) I spotted these back in December at Topshop and I needed them in my life! But to compensate for the little wind there was, I opted to wear my new trench coat, which I am super in love with. The fabric is incredibly soft and it’s super comfortable. A huge plus, it’s in a neutral beige color, which allows me to mix and match it with every outfit I wear. It’s super classy too! You can totes get away wearing this over a fancy dress!

IMG_6860

TBH, I wasn’t too too keen on the pants, I also got them on sale from Topshop a while ago and never had the chance to wear them until today. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I kinda had a “what was I thinking?!?!?” moment, but I feel like it made the whole outfit 10 times better and gave a little pizazz and jazziness. They’re simple in the shape and cut, but the color and texture make them fancy enough to wear to dinner.

WHAT I WORE:

TRENCH: Vero Moda ♠ TOP: Vero Moda ♠ PANTS: Topshop ♠ SHOES: Topshop sandals ♠ SUNGLASSES: Guess ♠ BAG: Guess ♠ EARRINGS: DCK

IMG_6886

The turban literally took me 2 second to wrap and what I love about it is that it’s asymmetrical. It actually came out super cool that way, plus I used zero pins! Yay for that! But can we all take a moment as appreciate the fact that my sunnies have a marble print/effect…omg!! It’s insane, so love them; they’re different from anything I have seen so far. When I spotted them, I knew they belonged to me.

All in all, tonight’s dining/outing was amazing and I would totes count this outfit as a win because I felt comfortable in it!

Roaring twenties: OOTD

As I am going through some major changes in my life…in a particular closing chapter, I have turned to fashion to make my days brighter and happier. It doesn’t really mean I’m unhappy, it just means I’m feeling quite nostalgic and emotional. I sought after color, texture and style to remind me of how beautiful life is and how this next big chapter in my life will be filled with amazingly ‘notorious’ adventures with the person I love and cherish. Fashion consoles me in difficult time and I needed a break from all the chaos. So today, I went for the happier times in modern fashion…the roaring twenties; the times of perfectly joyous, avant-garde, jazzy days, where nothing else but happiness mattered. The times of women decided to break through the Victorian era and rebel against the corsets and uptight clothes. The flapper women are a little bit like heroes for wanting to free themselves from certain rules and for expressing themselves through fashion.

As I was inspired by their strength, I went all out with my outfit…like I mean all out. Perhaps it is a little bit too much for certain people, but I can strongly say that this particular outfit uplifted my spirits and gave me energy and strength to keep fighting. It may sound super funny, but clothes really do change your perspective on life and how you see things.

Without going on too much on feeling my feelings…here’s what my outfit came out:

Can we just take a moment and look how awesome these pants are! They’re super jazzy and cool! And when you walk and the wind just hits them….ugh, the hems just go flying and dancing into the breeze, making beautiful poetic fashionable waves!

WHAT I WORE:

NECK TIE: Vintage ♦ SHIRT: Thrifted ♦ PANTS: Zara ♦ SHOES: Topshop (y’all have seen them like a million times) ♦ EARRINGS: H&M ♦ SUNGLASSES: Vintage

IMG_6794

I tired up my scarf in a way to recall the bob cut and the gorgeous hats…I was pretty impressed on how it came out…although sometimes I felt a little bit like a pirate. Haha!

Nonetheless, I can truly and safely say that today was a good day. I totes needed this and the 1920s were just the right amount of inspiration to keep me going!!!

The little rebel I am

Sometimes I feel super blessed to be bi-cultural because of how much horizon I can see and cover. I feel like I can understand other cultures so much better. But most of the time, I find it difficult and hard to deal with, especially with the fact that I cannot seem to find a true place in which I fit in. I mean, in my heart I am African, in my dreams I am Mexican, I speak Spanish and Italian, I am an avid German fan and I die for Chinese food…I feel like the whole world is my home (except when I am with my hubby, then that truly is home). The point of this post is that today I woke up feeling quite rebellious (a huge trait I have), and felt like my Canadian, North American side needed to come out. My inner Louise was itching to come out. And so, this is how I decided to dress this morning…a mix of Louise, with a little bit of badass, a little bit of attitude, and a little bit of hate for love.

This is how my look/style turned out….featuring my new favorite vintage BB sunglasses from mum:

IMG_6709

What I wore:

SHRUG: Lucky Brand ♣ TOP: Girl Boss tee from Simmons ♣ JEANS: High rise Gap denim ♣ SHOES: Topshop ♣ SUNGLASSES: Vintage ♣ RINGS: Vintage

I haven’t been able to wear any other shoe lately, I love these ones too damn much…and although my shoe wardrobe is quite big, this Topshop heel is the one i reach out for the most.  I find that those shoes add more va va voom to any outfit because the heel is quite high and it’s velvet.

These rings were purchased by mum…from a cute little antique shop in Montréal. They’re amazing and they add the perfect gypsy/bohemian to any outfit.

I was feeling very me in this outfit. I will most of the time prefer jeans over anything else…although sometimes I itch to dress ‘decent’ and ‘appropriate’ or ‘lady-like’ if you will….but today was one of those days where I gave no importance to anything else but comfort and freedom. I know it might sound weird, but dressing up to your own liking is liberating and freeing as you can easily express yourself without too much effort. This is why fashion and style is so important to me, because I speak way too  many languages, I get lost and can’t find my words…I just choose to dress a certain way and voila the trick is done!

Back to the 60s

Today, I’m going all the way back to the 60s. I sort of wish I was born in the 30s….I mean, in terms of style, the 50s all the way through to the 80s are years filled with great fashion mementos. The prints, the cuts, the fit, the colors, the detailing….everything was beautiful; even the quality! I would do the 50s for the Dior style; all those full skirts have me swooning. The 60s would be awesome to relive for the amazing wide variety of prints; houndstooth, gingham, stripes, and the list goes on. Oh! And!!! Those cute short dresses that Twiggy endlessly sported!! The 70s would be amazing to relive for the flared everything…sleeves, pants, tops, you name it. And the psychedelic prints. The 80s, well, the 80s are the years of crazy neon colors, the layering, the big denims and the crazy hair. It’s a notorious year; the year where you can one day get away with wearing skin tight miniskirts to large MC Hammer pants. Alas, here I am in the modern times where fortunately, history repeats itself! And so this is why I allowed myself to go back to the 60s, it’s not vintage per say, but it is a 60s inspired look.

IMG_6578

I had a meeting, so I couldn’t do denims for sure, and I wasn`t going to do a skirt either. So I went for something professional but with flare, obviously, because we’re talking about me. I would almost never settle for boring; I need detail in every outfit. So without further ado, here’s what I wore:

I opted for velvet pants, I know it’s spring, but it’s still kinda chilly out here in
Montreal with all the rain we’ve been getting. I paired them pants with a cute high low gingham shirt. I kept it pretty monochrome in the color department and let the shoes do the talking (they’ve gotta be my favorite pair ).

What I wore:

TOP: Topshop tie sleeve top ◊ PANTS: Zara ◊ SHOES: Topshop

IMG_6544

I obviously would have loved to use vintage items today, but I don’t own anything (yet) from that era. I would need to go do a little of bit of sniffing around the thrift shops to find ideal items I can add to my insanely growing collection. But for the moment, this will do.

The all start edit!

This is the first day in forever that the weather is to die for in Montréal; winter has been quite long and spring was a little too gloomy. So I took the opportunity to bring out the white shoes! Hello spring/summer; since it was very sunny. The white Converse is doing a huge comeback…as they are a cult favorite! And today I took mine out for the day…and I own the Chuck Taylor All Star Ox Low leather trainers. They’re not only super comfy but decidedly, they go with everything! And I mean everything! From dresses, to jeans, to skirts….you name it!

IMG_6213

Today, I went for more of a street-wear tomboy look…and I wore my favorite 80s leather jacket to go with the shoes…a little bit of hood!

….Here’s what I wore:

I kinda felt proud of this one; the look is pretty minimalistic considering my other outfits. Super casual and chill. I just wore my favorite slim fit black denims with a leopard print shirt from Topshop. I love that place for blouses and tops, especially when everything is on sale. The quality is there and the fit is there too.

What I wore:

JACKET: Leather-80s vintage ♦ SHIRT: Topshop ♦ PANTS: Rachel Zoe ♦ SHOES: Chuck Taylor All Start Ox trainers ♦ BELT: Vintage ♦ SUNGLASSES: Kate Spade

IMG_6194

I can wait for brighter and sunnier weather; these bad boys will be so worn out….way before the summer even ends!

Feeling the blues

Fashion is so limitless and if you’re brave enough with experimenting, style will be your ally to express yourself freely. I never label my style because I like to play it by ear…or more like dress how I feel when I get up in the morning. Sometimes I want to dress in a Gucci gown and strut down the street of Montreal like ain’t nobody’s business. Sometimes, I want to dress like a tomboy transitioning into a flower. And other time I want to dress like a metal head. My outfits really do depend on my feelings and my state of mind.

So today’s outfit was more lady-like for me. I don’t like to dress in trouser a lot because I am a jeans kinda girl…and also I feel a little older when I do trousers. Lately, I have been loving the trouser look, which I have done for a couple of days in a row…today was one of them yet again. This time, I went for blue tones. I did a grey—ish blue wide leg trouser from Topshop and thrifted striped white and blue shirt. I was totes feeling it this morning. These trousers in particular are my favorite. I love them because they’re comfortable and they’re wide leg….so if I decided to wear a tight/fitted top, I wouldn’t feel too self-conscious about my booty.

Details: Topshop pants – Thrifted striped shirt – Pink Asos sling back shoes – Kate Spade sunglasses.

img_4175

I really do love these pants. They make my thighs/legs look less manly. I have ragging muscles from all the Pilates and Yoga I have been doing over the years, so sometimes I feel like maybe my thighs are too big for certain things. However, I try as much as possible not to be self-judgemental.

Self-acceptance and self-love are necessary to a happy life. So be proud of what you got girlies and flaunt it!
