Four things that cheered me up this month

Since I was feeling down since the beginning of the New Year and felt a bit out of the loop on living life cheerfully and lightly. I am usually a pretty cheerful and positive person but being physically sick ain’t that exciting and I feel like it affects my mental state very much. Since feeling much better physically, I have been on a journey of self-care and I make sure to stay jolly. Every month that passes, I focus on finding little things to keep my spirits high and my mood chappy. Here’s a little list of those things.

Praying (also meditating)

Being a Muslim, I mean it is required for us to pray 5 times a week…but since moving to Jericho, I have become a little bit more negative than my usual self and i don’t like that side of me because that never was me! I am always the girl that lives in a “delusional” world, where everything is perfect no matter what happens and that when you fall, you can easily get up and move forward. Anyway, to break this ugly and disastrous self-sabotage cycle of loathing, I have turned to mediating and praying. I would do yoga whenever I can but praying has also helped me find inner peace. This isn’t to really push anything down anyone’s throat but I do feel more Zen nowadays. I never took to praying so deeply until passing through some hardship and now I know that it is there for a reason; it keeps us light-hearted and relaxed. I would describe it as doing yoga, really, it’s a 5 minute process that I do 5 times a day and it helps me re-energize and re-center. You sort of disconnected for your troubles and worries and just work on rebuilding your trust in God, in life and in the good things that come your ways.

Florence Welch (& the Machine)

I have fallen back in love with her music. There’s so much to listen to these days, but I stumbled onto the Dog Days and just remembered how good it was. I listen to other music obviously, but this month I have had Florence and the Machine on repeat and it has been giving me life! I like to blast the music high when hubs isn’t home to dance around a little bit while making dinner. Music can easily and quickly lighten my mood. I don’t usually go for a favourite band (except maybe for Coldplay), but I like to listen to meaningful lyrics and that goes for any genre of music. This month in particular, music has been a good way to keep me active too. So it’s always a win with music.

RuPaul’s Drag Race

It was a while since I even opened the TV, even if I am home alone, I rarely open it. I don’t feel motivated to sit there and watch it all by myself. I get a little more excited watching with someone else…but going on to Netflix recently, I was curious as to what I could watch…something not too dark and not too serious. I stumbled onto RuPaul’s drag race and that’s where the love started. I binge watched by way up to season 7. It’s so freaking amazing! I am totes in love with this show. The first episode of each season is always my favourite because then you get to see the transformations of each contestant and their reactions to each other. I love how talented some of these queens are; I mean I wish I could do my eye shadow half as decent as they do. I also love how some of them are so talented in sewing and just make beautiful costumes out of nothing. So inspiring! Their will to succeed is touching and exciting to see.

Although I don’t usually go ham with it but I love playing with it nowadays. I have mentioned it in my previous post, but skincare/makeup have been keeping me quite content these days. I now find the time to really cleanse my skin and exxfolitate properly and even get some masks done. A little R&R never hurts! Also, there’s something just so satisfying about adding a pop of color on a bland canvas (my face at the moment); seeing the little changes that happen is awesome. Sometimes, I take the time to put some makeup even if I’m at home, just for fun. Because why the hell not?!

Marc Jacobs Beauty-Mini Review…

If I ever had to choose a designer or a brand to use forever for the rest of my life without ands, ifs or buts…I would always choose Marc Jacobs. He’s such a talented designer and I simply love his work. To die for!! Him and Dolce & Gabbana have always been my favorite.

But when it comes to cosmetics, Marc Jacobs is my pick. I have tried many lipsticks, perfumes and now I dove into trying his mascara and gel eyeliner. From every brand out there that I have tired, Marco Jacobs’ cosmetics left me with a very positive outlook and it just does it for me. Marc is my hero!!!

So the Velvet Noir Mascara is the best mascara I have used to date, even though it is not waterproof and you have to be careful when you burst out laughing in tears X). Okay it’s up there with Benefit’s They’re real! (I love that one too..but Velvet Noir is going to be my favortie for the next while…) I absolutely love the Velvet Noir and even though it adds major volume, I manage to make it look natural by removing excess product from the brush. You can make your lashes look extravagant and clumpy by layering it on. But if I do one gentle swipe, I get exactly what I am looking for and that’s enough volume. Since I have long lashes, I don’t need loads of product. For the price (33$ CAD at Sephora), this mascara is totally worth it. I will say that hands down hands down…the best mascara I’ve ever tried!!! Gives full, long, gorgeous and glamorous lashes. I don’t know how else to describe this baby besides saying it’s a game changer.

Since I was feeling testing out the mascara, I also took the chance and time to try the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in the color Sunset 74 (31$ CAD at Sephora). It’s a beautiful golden bronze shimmery color that just compliments my olive skin ever so slightly. It’s subtle but still shiny. I put it on my waterline and it stays put all day. The formula is just fantastic! It’s so luxurious and glides easily without tugging or hurting your eyeballs. It’s literally a bold statement, depending on the color you choose, with an extreme-wear. It’s waterproof and it delivers instant color payoff. I sometimes even choose to smudge it out and it comes out very nice and sultry. This crayon comes with a sharpener, so you just have to pop out the black sharpener and twist the tip of Highliner to sharpen. I don’t really use the sharpener but it’s good to have in case.

So this is what both of these products look like on me in action:

Have you guys tried these liners or this mascara?? What are your thoughts…please let me know in a comment below!

Here I’m wearing “Flirtation”; a coraly orangy pink

I’ve been on a bit of a liquid lipsticks moment…especially when they’re matte.. My lipstick stash is growing quite rapidly as I love to try new lip products all the time. In today’s post, I am sharing with you my thoughts on Revlon’s Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor.

The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors are brand new, they come in 8 shades, cost about 12.99$ CAD. The packaging is genuinely super cute; it’s small enough to pop into a small handbag or even your pocket!  You can clearly see the color through the transparent container and the elongated doe-foot applicator is easy to use.

This item is described as a “lightweight, high definition velvety matte colour. Moisturizing, velvety feel. 100% wax-free, gel formula“. It smells fruity and nice. The are easy to apply and dry quite nice and fast. They don’t dry out the lips but once the formula sets, I find it a little’s not too matte, there’s a little something about it. It’s not super long lasting and when I accidentally touched my lips, the lipstick would move easily. My favorite lip color so far is Addiction; berry mauvy color that suits me best and I found the formula to sit better on my lips. For some reason, when I apply the lighter shades, they come out patchy.

I couldn’t get my hand on the other colors because they were sold out, but from the ones I tried, I didn’t mind. They’re more accessible and affordable and the range is quite nice. You can choose what suits you best. The formula is not that bad, but I felt them to be more satiny that matte.

I hope this review was helpful, let me know if you think if you tried them already!

Cheers xo
