The thrill of the hunt: Etsy’s vintage community is amazeballs!

When I discovered Etsy a few years back, the vintage community wasn’t as big as it is today. It’s bloody awesome how the community grew in the span of five years. When I first started selling on Etsy, I was selling my own custom-made designs with my labels on them and found it very satisfying. Whenever I got a purchase confirmation message, I was celebrating another achievement. When my love for fashion shifted, I decided to close my store and pursue other mediums but then when I thought about it, I figured that since my love for vintage is deep, then why not share it with my fellow vintage lovers. Then I created Le Dressing de Moon and slowly I was growing my current business and I was participating in more shows than I thought I would. I met amazing people, sold amazing pieces and ended up collecting wonderfully unique items that made me truly happy. vintage is not for everyone and sometimes, I feel like I am risking a lot venturing into it but deep down, I know that it is the path that truly makes me happy—so whatever comes from it, at the end, I know I am doing the right thing.

I have a few events coming up and gearing up for sales season has me thrilled and Etsy helps me share my love for my craft. Collecting pieces from the past is rewarding even though it is a niche thing. I discovered many wonderful vendors through Etsy and bought a few things for myself. Even though I sell a lot, I still selfishly keep a few pieces for myself or sometimes, I take them out for a ‘’spin’’. Just like today’s dress. It is a piece I am forever loving because it is versatile even though it’s pretty straightforward—a dress is a dress….but I feel like I can wear this piece so many ways and still make it special. I can wear a sweater over it and it would just look like a skirt, I could wear it with a leather jacket, or I can wear it with a cardigan for a delicate look or the way I did today. I didn’t want too many layers on my body, so I added a little bodysuit underneath and voila, made it work! I really love the juxtaposition of femininity and masculinity with the ”combat boot” addition.

IMG_7976

This is a piece I purchased from a big load I ordered for my shop last spring…even though I was a massive preggo whale, I was quite thrilled to fill up my store with lots of new goodies. This dress seriously makes me feel feminine in the best way possible…not too girly and too exposé…just the right amount of femininity. You can easily add your own touch and make it work for your own body and style. It truly is a 70s beauty! Plus, the fit & flare is suitable for all body shapes!!

WHAT I AM WEARING

DRESS: Vintage ● BODYSUIT: Koton ● SHOES: Doc Martens ● BAG: Core Life

So, if you are in the hunt of special, unique and amazing vintage pieces, don’t be shy to visit my store (shameless plug!!!) but also go on Etsy in general to discover other vendors because Etsy truly is a treasure trove when it comes to that.

Beating the winter blues with florals…

I feel bad for January. Poor January! It’s the first month of the year and it carries so much on its shoulders; from our hopes and dreams to our expectations and resolutions and promises to ourselves to become better humans. Some of us succeed to find that path and some of us just find ourselves astray struggling to find a perfect sense of direction. But life, of course, isn’t about perfect. It’s about improving and refining ourselves to become the best version of who we can be. I feel like when mid-January comes, I become blue and I don’t feel like I am alone in feeling so. We start on such a high and then life takes us in different courses sometimes and we have to remain positive despite it all. I have pushed myself time and time again to remain high even in the most difficult times and surrounding myself with happy people gets me to where I need to be. The winter blues are real this time of year and I make efforts to dress up to feel great in my own body and to keep a healthy mental state. Today, even though I dressed a little grunge and rebellious, I felt sexy and amazing, something I haven’t felt in a while. They say that baby becomes better after four months and calms down, but I’m still waiting!!! This is a vintage dress I have in my store and have been eyeing it since I got it and I cannot stop debating whether I should keep it for myself or simply just sell it along with the million others things I fall in love with. Space is so limited for me these days and keeping things in my closet because I love them isn’t reason enough. However, this 70s floral dress makes me feel like a total babe!

I have been having a 70s moment, like I said before, I feel like it’s such an easy trend to style as it is completely carefree in the most experimental way. Patterns and colors are everything! The ruffles in the dress call for femininity but because it’s black, there’s still a little bit of edge to it and this is why I added a leather jacket, because it keeps it more balanced. I like a solid merge between masculine and feminine! Dark and light! Good and bad! That outfit is completely me; from the floral print, to the boots, to the leather jacket—all elements that make me me. I love that the floral print isn’t too in your face too…it’s not too I AM HERE, LOOK AT ME!

WHAT I AM WEARING

JACKET: Danier leather • DRESS: Vintage (70s) • SHOES: Dr. Martens • BAG: Kate Spade • SUNNIES: Raybans • BELT: Vintage

img_6900

The boots I got in a sale a couple of weeks ago…I always admired people sporting Dr. Martens booties because they command so much presence, which I feel like I didn’t have. But after giving birth, I feel like I can do anything now and today is the day for me to do Dr. Martens as well! You know when they say give a girl the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the world, well it’s true…that saying is absolutely true, because I do feel like the world is in the palm of my hands when I wear these boots and I feel like I can do anything I can put my mind to it. I mean, you don’t really need clothes to feel that way, but conquering the world while being and feeling pretty doesn’t hurt!

img_6914

So here’s to all of us feeling blue! Feel confident, feel pretty and give it your all! It isn’t January’s fault! We just gotta push through the January blues.

The 90s: a do-over

We were going out for a little BBQ party today and I figured what a perfect opportunity to dress up all 90s and wear a vintage number in this hot sun. Today’s look is fully inspired by the 90s, more so Liv Tyler and her wonderful effortless style that was always bang on. The movie Heavy was pretty iconic when it came to who Liv Tyler was and what she represented and I truly love the evolution of her looks. The movie was filled with wonderful inspiring looks; from her faded blue denims, to the cutest cardigans, to the layered floral printed slip dresses over the top of fitted tees…they were all outfits that spoke to me deeply.

IMG_4969

This 90s vintage dress gives me Liv Tyler vibes and so inspiring it with a little cardigan was a super obvious choice. In true Liv style, the pièce de résistance would be a pair of Dr. Martens lace-up boots; which would totes add a touch of toughness to the look. But since it’s like 99 degrees outside, I just went for simple oxford slip-ons.

To complete the 90s vibes, I wore a crochet bag and it was super fitting for the event we were going to. Spending the day in the park was great as it was still nature and food! There was a lake and bench and a path to walk in through a small forest and that beautiful. Although it was quite hot, I enjoyed a walk with my sissy and that felt really good.

WHAT I WORE

CARDIGAN: Zara (thrifted) ◊ DRESS: D.B.Y (Vintage-posted on my ETSY) ◊ SHOES: Charles & Keith ◊ SUNNIES: Brigitte Bardot (Vintage) ◊ BAG: Vintage (unbranded)

IMG_4955

It’s a little nice change, since I have been quite stuck in the 70s…doesn’t mean I am done exploring the wide options of the 1970s…I am just giving it a rest to seek other things.

New in: vintage shopping @ledressingdemoon!!!

In today’s blog post, I am sharing with y’all some of the new items I started posting on my Etsy shop and I am super proud of the new dresses I got. This time around, I did not hand pick every item physically, rather, I took a risk and ordered online from a vintage warehouse in the US. Granted, it was far too expensive that way, I just had a gut feeling that it was time to try something new and I am really happy of the outcome. I was sincerely expecting to be robbed because, well, you buy by pound and items are just put in bags and shipped to you without inspection. Upon checking the items meticulously, I was so ecstatic to see that everything was in tip top shape…well 97% of it was. There were some dresses that needed more care and more work, but overall I was happy with the items I got and I wanted to share some of my favourite pieces with you.

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

This dress caught my eye the minute I got it out of the box. Why? Well because despite it being from the 70s, it’s super on trend at the moment. The polka dot print is taking over the fashion world by storm and I don’t see it stopping any time soon. I see it in every possible shade and this one is the cutest!! Pink and white, I mean what more could a girl ask for?! I love how the pleats are carefully sewn on the skirt and how they add a little bit of flare to a simple cut dress. I love how girly it is but super feminine at the same time and it’s super perfect for the summer time!

IMG_2224

This one is probably me in a dress; it’s wild, it’s colourful, it’s super carefree. This is another 70s dress but much more out there; it isn’t for the faint of heart, haha! Because it’s crazy colourful, it’s easier to style, you don’t need to go crazy with accessories, unless you want to of course, no one is stopping you, you do you! This dress is the ultimate summer babe dress and it’s 100% cotton! I have a few dresses with a similar concept; boho chic, but this one has to be my favourite of them all. And since I can’t share 300 dresses on this blog (it’s going to take forever to go through them), I suggest your check out my ETSY store if you’re interested.

IMG_4447

This is a special piece, for the woman looking to conquer the world, while still looking ultra-fierce; this is seriously the epitome of power suit. Even though it’s 90s only, it still has a je ne sais quoi flare about it! I think it’s the fact that it’s lined in pink, or maybe all the trims sewn on it…don’t know but I wish I can wear it now and just go be a girl boss randomly in the street!

IMG_3764

I have many wonderful velour pieces this time around and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of it. My favourite of them all is this one! It’s so Grace Kelly, so glamorous, so delicate, so feminine, so sexy without being too revealing, it’s just overall perfect! I love the beautiful trim detailing and the beading, it’s very party appropriate without it being too out there. The weird combination of green and black; it’s a huge yes for me!

IMG_4153

I can’t forget the accessories obviously; these were handpicked by either me or my mum recently. I have many favourite but I think this camel leather messenger bag is the one that stole my heart. Even though it’s super simple, I feel like it goes with everything you decided to wear and it’s super sturdy and fits everything including your kitchen sink!

IMG_1896

 ♥

So I invite you to check out the new items I recently added and of course to check the sales section!!! Because I added another 50% off and it’s totes worth it!

Cheers x

Let’s talk vintage!

One of the main things that kept my spirit high this year was managing and having my online business running. I started my vintage online shop 2 years ago and couldn’t be prouder of myself; I rarely gloat over my little successes (others many not see them as such but I don’t care). I tend to keep quiet about what I do, unless someone is super interested and asks me to give full details. Fashion was always my home away from home; finding myself through colors and textures wasn’t a challenge at all…in fact, it came naturally to me. However, to continue as a fashion designer, with my own line, I had to give up on a lot of my values, which I really wasn’t ready to do (not before, not now and not ever). Therefore, my sister and I had the brilliant idea to open a vintage shop, but her condition was for me to open an online shop and start from there, see how it goes and then move forward with a real store. Then, life happened and my store idea was set on the side, but my online shop was starting to go so well, I didn’t care much. I started having pop up shops, participating in events and selling a lot of my stock…then buying more, then selling more. Even my mom got excited about, she started collecting vintage pieces for me to sell, might I add that some were questionable (those were the ones that sold). I always argued with her about a lot of things, but in the end I am honoured, humbled, touched and rejoiced by how much my family got as excited as I did about my project; my husband is now on the bandwagon. I mean curating vintage is like being Indiana Jones…you re-discover history and give it life; each piece you find tells a story. Besides, you do good to nature by upcycling and recycling. Opening up a shop is still a goal of mine and I am just waiting for the write time to do it.

In today’s post, I am sharing with you wonderful readers and follower my favourite pieces in my shop and also sneaking-ly tell you about the discount I am holding (so you get to enjoy it now through April 15th!!!).

SPRINGCLEAROUT

I usually collect pieces from my mom, from shopping in other vintage shops, from going to vintage warehouses and even from traveling. If there’s a piece that looks special and speaks to me, I pick it up…clean it, zhush it, photograph it and then post it’ and voila! The trick is done! I pretty much do it from A to Z…since moving, I only do the online part and my sisters help take care of the shipping for me. It’s all a team effort really and I couldn’t be happier to have my amazing family involved. Super lucky and blessed!

The Moroccan tunic

il_570xN_1067167730_1145

I picked this piece up from a warehouse based in Toronto. They have bags and bags and bags filled with vintage items from all eras and from around the world. You need a whole day there to go through it all. My sister and I get a kick out of it and love going through everything and laughing and giggling at some hideous items and enjoying what’s nice. We’re like little kids in a candy shop…we see something we love, then automatically get distracted by something even cooler. This is probably the best part of curating vintage; spending the time with my sister, my bestie, is something I would never change. So, this particular piece spoke to me for the details; the tape stitched on the front is so authentic is reminds me of being in Morocco all over again. The fabric is perfection too; the state it’s in is just beautiful. It’s light and airy! Plus, this piece is versatile enough to wear as is or to even add it over jeans; it would give such a cool, je ne sais quoi, style.

The butterfly caftan

il_570xN_1015820739_l4i6

I got this one from a trip to Jordan a few years ago and wanted to keep it for myself because it’s just so pretty…but then I had two and a few too many similar styles in my wardrobe. So, I ended up posting it. It’s a gorgeous piece to wear on special occasions…and yes, it can be overwhelming for some, but if you style this bad boy out with simple accessories, it would look stunning!

The Mexican Oaxacan

il_570xN_1114082205_8bd2

This dress is also known as the San Antonino dress (aka Mexican Wedding Dress). I had a few of those posted but a lot sold out and I have two remaining and this being one of them. I wish I could wear it…but I would end up covering it so much, that honestly…there’s no more purpose for me to even put it on. These dresses are characterized by the delicacy of the embroidery, as well as the preservation of traditional forms and motifs. Fine silk and cotton thread are usually used to achieve brilliant and precise floral motifs on lightweight cotton fabric. The only thing I would say is that sometimes, the colors are so vibrant they end up smearing on the white fabric…but with delicate care, these pieces would last forever and plus, you can wear them on nights out and still look bomb!

The sequin “Great Gatsby” dress

il_570xN_1139895673_khzv

This one is to die for! I have a big selection of sequin/party dresses and items. I mean it couldn’t possibly be Le Dressing de Moon without sequins and sparkle…this is who I am and I am in love with that section. I am not going to lie…whenever I have events to go to…I always dig into my vintage closet for outfits. For one, I know that I’ll look special and for two, I know that no one else will have the same outfit as me. So win-win!

The accessories section

I’ve got bags, necklaces, brooches, shoes and the whole nine yards. My accessories section’s game is awesome AF! It’s probably one of my favourite sections to edit…because there are so many ways to style these items, so many ways to describe them and so many ways to photograph them. This section is probs the most creative one for me and besides, accessories are what make an outfit pop!

Suits

il_570xN_1369921461_puzk

For them chicks looking to rock one hell of a suit, then I got ya gurl! I have suits that are remarkable and from the 70s. Suits are versatile; you can wear them as one, or as separates and that what I love about them. I had a few of my own, but since moving away, ended up selling them and I kindda regret it, because well, suits are badass and now I am looking to re-acquire some unique suits into my closet; but like really colourful ones!!! Like a hot pink one, or even an orange! That would be killer!!!

♠ ♠ ♠

So there ya have it folks! These are some of my favourite pieces in my shop and I am holding a sale currently, spring clear-out sale…to sort of renew my stock and to introduce new items that I have been collecting. The sale will be on till April 15th and all you gotta do is use the code SPRINGCLEAROUT at check out to get 30% off when you spend 50$ or more. Not to be a pusher or anything, but go take a look and enjoy it while it lasts!!!
