Arabian Princess…

So today is Eid for us Muslims, as I am sure most of you know. It is specifically Eid Al-Fitr (which means the Eating Festival/holiday). This is a celebration we do after fasting the month of Ramadan. What is Ramadan? I will just give you a little explanation before sharing what I wore today.

Okay so, Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims everywhere around the world where we fast on a daily basis from dawn to sunset and no we do not fast for 30 days straight. It’s from dawn to sunset daily. Ramadan is a pillar in the five pillars of Islam. Not to make this too long and for those who are curious, Ramadan is a period for us to redirect our heart away from worldly activities. It is the opportunity for us cleanse our soul by freeing it from harmful impurities. Ramadan also teaches Muslims how to better practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice (be selfless), and empathy for those who are less fortunate. This holy month encourages us to undertake actions of generosity and charity.

After Ramadan we celebrate by visiting our families, friends, offering money to those in need. Giving gifts to little ones and money all around. We buy new clothes and have fun with the people closest to us. So, since I was raised in Canada and we’re far away from our big family, we celebrate with our friends and just sit and enjoy each other’s company.

Since I didn’t really do much shopping for this event, like every other year. I pulled something out from my closet I bought last summer from Palestine but never ended up wearing it.

It’s a beautiful handcrafted long jacket that worked on by local in the town of Jericho in the West Bank. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. With Arabic calligraphy and crochet detailing, this is definitely a collectible piece for me. Even though it’s heavy and the workmanship is intricate and detailed, it’s a very delicate piece.

Here’s the look:
